Jazzy Dale is doing it for the hot girl detectives

Coming off an incredible release that received her a Tripe J Airplay and was featured on Spotify's editorial playlist, Sydney-based alternative artists, Jazzy Dale, has returned to present her brand new singe: Mr Right.

PHOTOGRAPHY: Aunty Shiv        WORDS: Esté Penson-Golding

The song exposes the deception of a lover, the indifference felt after after being cheated on by someone you love, and describes the feelings of liberation that come after realising you no longer care about them. Jazzy pours her heart into the lyrics in all of her songs, this paired with her angelic voice make it a listening experience similar to that of Jorja Smith, Summer Walker, and Pip Millett.

The story behind the song is one that anyone in their 20s can relate to. Despite her friends disapproval, Jazzy was dating a boy she definitely shouldn't have been. While attending a party, she says her date went missing, only to reappear later on in the night acting shady. The following morning, she found a blue fingernail in his bed — one that wasn't hers.Jazzy says her and her friends performed some 'hot girl detective work' to find the culprit: a girl from the very same party. From this heartbreak came a perfectly-crafted alternative R&B song that is deserving of being on everyone's playlists.

"Mr Right is about being disrespected by someone I lowered my standards for. I was in the studio and only two days late and this song just poured out of me. Writing this song made me realise just how little I cared about him."

"I mostly free-styled the first verse. The feelings were still so fresh. I was in the studio just days after it happened", she says. Jazzy collaborated with producer Cyrus Villanueva on the song.

The authenticity from Jazzy Dale shines through in Mr Right, the compelling storytelling offers listeners a deep connection to pain, and release of said pain, in the journey of the song itself. Through her vulnerability Jazzy wrote the track with one thing on the mind: a reminder not to lower your standards.

The track is available for steaming right now on Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud and YouTube. Follow Jazzy Dale on Instagram.
